REVIEW: Vince Neil - "You're Invited (But Your Friend Can't Come)" (1992 single)
REVIEW: Vince Neil – “You’re Invited (But Your Friend Can’t Come)” (1992 single)
VINCE NEIL – “You’re Invited (But Your Friend Can’t Come)” (1992 Hollywood single) “Woahow!” In 1992, post-split, Vince Neil was out of the gates fast with a killer new single, while we had to wait two more years for Motley Crue to make their move.  It certainly seemed that Neil was winning the Crue vs. Vince competition, especially when his Exposed album with Steve Stevens was released in 1993. …

Horror Movie Review: Underground Lizard People (2011)
If you thought a title like Underground Lizard People wasn’t a bad enough title for a movie, try Underground Lizard People: They're Coming for You. It screams no-budget trash, and that is exactly what it is.
If you thought a title like Underground Lizard People wasn’t a bad enough title for a movie, try Underground Lizard People: They’re Coming for You. It screams no-budget trash, and that is exactly what it is. However, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily bad, after all many a no-budget flick has proven itself to be entertaining. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Underground Lizard People is…

Stay warm, Seattle!
Here in Seattle temperatures are plummeting. We could be heading for -11°C this weekend. A blog post in which I use Galaxy Quest and Kenneth the Emu to demonstrate why I'm a fan of 'Hope for the best and plan for the worst.' Stay warm, people!
Temperatures in Seattle this weekend could be heading as low as 11° F ( -11.5°C). Even if it doesn’t go quite that low (there’s still wiggle room in the forecasting models) it’s going to be *cold*. On the plus side, it seems that we’ll avoid Snowpocalypse—Portland’s going to get that. Again. I know folks in the Midwest and Northeast laugh at Seattle people and think we’re like Kenneth the…

"If you want to direct, watch things." -Kenneth Branagh, Pt. III
Ten years ago I gave myself the challenge of watching 52 films in 52 weeks. I called it, "If you want to direct, watch things." My goal was to learn what I liked, why, and to encourage myself to write.
I exceeded my objective and ended my year with 150 films. I learned a little more about myself and what I could accomplish.
Over the years, I have lost motivation for my personal wellbeing. I've been overworked, stressed, depressed, unable to focus - but I'm feeling better now.
So, now I want to do it again. I want to push myself, challenge myself... because I can, because I'm up to it.
Objective: Watch 150 films/television shows. Goal: To know I can put my mind to something and accomplish it. Movie | Short Film | Television Show | Re-watch

One of the things I'm trying to get better at is noticing discomfort and taking action about it.
Just because I have a tolerance for heat, or pain, or standing for long periods doesn't mean I should bear all of these like Atlas.
And sometimes it means noticing that something is actually not worth the value over the average competitor for that use of time.
Through a string of job-hunt flubs, I've found myself with loads of on-the-job time to spend on listening to podcasts. My rotation at this point is yuge. And for several months this podcast figured into it! Now, as a straight, cis guy, I'm definitely NOT the target audience for this, even though as the host often says, she gets a large autistic following for her comedy shows. But for reasons I'm trying to chew through by writing this, I don't think that an average or even queer autist should go out of their way to listen to 'We've Having Gay Sex'.
In short: comedian Ashley Gavin leads a life that is [just barely?] too exciting to be related to, but also too fragile to be the subject of fantastic wish fulfillment.
The latter part of that summation is much easier to explain than the former, so I'll start there. Being in the public eye as a standup comic, having to self-promote tenaciously, and network continuously is really hard! You do NOT envy her lot for having to do so much of that with the current structure of entertainment. But she's also very much living at the mercy of internet egregores that might cancel her. She says as much pretty frequently, if not talking around the time when she apparently WAS CANCELLED! She mimes suicide whenever her (very excellent!) crowdwork takes her to participants that are much more sympathetic than she is.
But the former is something I just can't stop noticing and internally flinching at. You can tell in each of her episodes where she recounts something from tour or her NYC shows that she is actively digesting her various escapades on mic with her producer and guest. The riffing process is real and if you're interested in comedy qua comedy as a Form, then what I'm about to say is not relevant to you. BUT-
Unless your life is so full of PULL, and CHARMING [verb], and WEIRD SEX STORIES, and DATING SUCCESS [restrictions may apply], I posit that you, dear reader, will tire of this audio programming too! Imagine that you were a cobbler for some high-falutin' French aristocrat, and that while you were doing your work for these customers you were hearing these nobles talk effusively about the banquets they just ate. On the one hand, wow that all sounds delicious! But OTOH, these people are just vastly, hugely richer than you in easily explicable ways.
[all that said, @chaosroid should still go to an Ashley Gavin show to find a date or at least come back with a fun story]
